If you look closely at a dandelion, you’ll see that each petal is actually hundreds of tiny, separate little flowers—flowers that fly in every direction with one puff of air. Linda Fazo and Pam Nelson believe in dandelions—only their wishes are always for someone else. “We were looking for volunteer stuff to do last December,” Pam said, “when we met Stephanie, founder of the local, non-profit organization, Silver Wishes (symbolized by a dandelion.) “As volunteers,” Linda added, “we invite people to nominate themselves or another senior to have a wish considered by the ‘Silver Wishes’ board. The wish can be a necessity, like a house repair or hearing aides, or something fun—like a manicure and haircut. Every wish granted is so heartwarming.”
Thank you, Linda and Pam. I took you up on it and saw my friend’s happy smile as her wish came true. I’ll never look at dandelions the same again! Nominate yourself or another senior by going online at www.silverwishes.org or calling 916-287-7172.
I’ve known Linda for close to 50 years, and Pam not quite as long. Your recognition of these two women is so well deserved. They are both very community oriented and continue to find ways to give, to give back, and most importantly always finding ways to directly and indirectly help others…those who need a little help and others who need help and don’t quite know how to ask for it. We should all aspire to be like Linda and Pam.
I first heard a presentation maybe nearly ten years ago at the Lincoln Woman’s Club. It was in in its beginning stages. Wonderful to know it has grown. (More I could tell…but not yet)
When I learned about this organization recently I was stunned with surprise that it was real! So many organizations like this are for animals, sick children, disabled folks, or people in foreign countries so my heart was overwhelmed with joy that seniors have the opportunity to have their wishes come true also!
I’m so glad to see these women honored here! They are true treasures and when you meet them you can’t help but feel happy and blessed. Silver Wishes is a wonderful group of people dedicated to helping seniors. Thank you, Sheila, for highlighting Linda & Pam. I hope others will meet them soon and have their wish fulfilled!
Thank you Sandra for such kind words!!! Who should truly be honored is Stephanie Berger, co-founder of Silver Wishes, for giving us the opportunity to be a part of such an amazing organization!!!
We are loving our ‘mission’ – **and SO enjoyed sharing time with you – plus making your wish come true!
