Janice’s Hug-in-a-Card

Isn’t it nice to receive a handmade card, prop it on your table, and admire it over and over as you walk by?

Janice Rosenthal-Rock has been creating handmade greeting cards for 20 years!

“I enjoy it!” she says. “I believe in the saying: ‘A card is a hug with a fold in the middle!'”

Imagine how many card-hugs Janice has exchanged with others–especially since she donates many of her cards to various worthy causes.

“And how often do you create cards?” I ask her.

“Oh…,” she answers, looking more serious than usual, “about as often as I need therapy!”

Ah-ha! There we have it! Perhaps all art is therapy–for the giver and the receiver. After all, when you give a hug, you also receive one.

Janice shares her clever card-making secrets in classes held at Ben Franklin Crafts in Grass Valley once a month. This year, she hopes to hold classes in Auburn. If you would like to join one of her classes, just call her at 916-217-6865.

  1. Hi Janice
You have a wonderful talent in these cards and to think they will go to someone else makes it very creative all over again. Regifting makes it so special. I’ve enjoyed received many of them thanks to this dear friend. Thanks so much Janice. Hugs

  2. When I received one of Janice’s cards, I was delighted to see the sticky note inside. I kept the note and plan to send the card forward for my friend to enjoy like I did.

  3. Hey! Thank you everyone for sharing your thoughts about regifting handmade cards. It’s so nice to know we have a community of creative and loving senior women out there! Sheila

  4. personally I think its a great idea to regift these beautiful cards. I have a friend who makes cards (and teaches card making) and when she gives me one I always dont quite know what to do with it after I have appreciated the gift. The time, the thoughtfulness – and knowing that while she was making that card – she was thinking of me. I have a couple framed but – literally – I have begun to give them back to her after I have enjoyed them – so she can re-gift or sell them.
    Its the thought that counts

They are way too beautiful to go to only one person. Art and therapy in all ways!
