I recently attended a performance of the Gold Country Band, held at a local retirement facility. When Becky Dugan struck up the band, the musicians, who are all seniors, played their instruments with vim and vigor. Tapping my toes and singing along, I realized the members of the audience were my peers too.
Meeting Becky later was fun. “My world has always been music,” she said. “I cannot imagine doing anything else.”
“What’s the biggest challenge of leading the Gold Country Band?” I asked.
She narrowed her smiling eyes in thought. “Our audiences are not yesterday’s seniors. It’s time to draw on the memories of the 50’s and 60’s. I’m busy updating the program and rewriting the musical arrangements for each instrument. Stardust is out; the Beatles are in.”
Right on, Becky!
If you get a chance, be sure to attend a performance of the Gold Country Band. I guarantee you’ll be tapping your toes and singing along in no time. Becky knows her audience: The cool seniors of 2024!
As a member of the Gold Country Band, I find playing music at the Senior Living facilities on Monday’s so rewarding. Becky has brought fun with a little challenge to us with her new music. However, not too hard as some of us haven’t played since High School, Which as a Senior Band you know was quite awhile ago.
Becky Dugan: a prelude to real, sonic estates. She welcomes us to music of the spheres.
Becky has had music on her mind since she was young, like 8 years old! She would “lead” the band listening to the radio or records! I’m her sister, I know!

I would love to go to one of Becky’s concerts; I already attend many of my good friend’s gigs at places like the Club Car, the Pavillion, & Crooked Lane- but these are usually all male bands 60 to 70 year olds. Looking forward to female band!!
Sounds like a good time can be had with this group. Would like to hear them.
I’m trying to get the band to send out announcements so we can all attend. Let’s hope it happens!

Becky sounds like such a great leader! It would be fun to attend one of their performances. How can we do it? Thank you. Donna
