When my first great-grandchild was born, I told my daughter, Okay. No one remembers their great-grandmother. That means I’m on my way out!
Then my two grandsons moved far away—one to Hawaii and one to North Carolina. Their lives took root. What was a great-grandmother to do? Simple! Go there! Lure the children away from their devices with old-fashioned play. Then post the pictures all over the house so I can remember their precious smiles—and they can remember mine—until next year.
It worked. I became the “traveling great-grandma”—to Hawaii in the summer and to North Carolina in November. The picture here, from my last visit to North Carolina, has Great-grandma ready to do a somersault. Ready! Set! …No go! We all laughed and laughed!
The other picture was taken just two weeks ago when I spent four glorious days with the Hawaii kids. My great-grand, Zen, is laughing like crazy with (or at?) me!
You know what? I think my great-grands will remember me after all!
They could never forget you! And, grandparents who spend time with their grandchildren live longer!
Way to go girl!
They will remember the play time and the laughter always.
It’s so good for them to see older folks NOT being serious!
Way to go Shiela.
So fun!
Living life to the fullest!
And what a cutie he is! You too…even during that almost-somersault….haha!
Unforgettable…that’s Great Grama! What precious times! I love this snapshot into your travels!
You are one amazing woman!
