Mary Daniels Achieves Creative Balance

Retired from a career as a nurse and hospice worker, Mary Daniels finally has time for her art … sort of!

Mary has been an artist for 40 years. In all that time, she says, she has never wanted to do her art under pressure or obligation. Instead, she seeks a creative balance–enjoying life with her husband, visiting with their large, blended family, volunteering in her church–and only then returning to her art, renewed and refreshed.

Some days, she says, when the light from the window is good and the house is quiet, creativity lures me back to my art. Whether it’s a seascape, a fairy shadowbox, (as shown here) a beaded bookmark, or preparation for an art show, art isn’t the most important part of my life–but it makes my life complete.

We know what you mean, Mary. Balancing creativity with the demands of everyday life is an art in itself. Thank you for sharing! Now, off you go–living life fully–while always keeping your paints close by.

  1. Thank you for the kind thoughts & words. There is hope for humanity inspite of the tragedies in this world. We can’t forget there are many angels(fairies) who surround us with love and encouragement.

Pure inspiration. Following the holidays I feel as though I’ve left my creative expression on a back burner and it’s gone cold. Today the sun is shining, I’m alone at home, and my laptop is in my lap. My fingers are itching to write…to dream…to align with my imagination and create something where there was nothing. Thank you Shelia for the perfectly timed article. And, thank you Mary for the heartfelt inspiration.

    1. Thank you, Libby, for reaching out with your encouragement. Definition of ‘encourage’: “To give courage, hope, and confidence, to embolden, and to hearten.” That’s what Bright Ideas is all about!
